Remedy for Hand Sanitizer

You can't find hand sanitizer anywhere? Do not panic, just make your own with a few simple ingredients you can easily obtain. Most people carry their own hand sanitizer everywhere they go, specially us ladies and besides it goes without saying, hand sanitizing is just part of good hygiene.

Dirt, germs and bacteria are all over; sometimes and specially if you have small kids you now these germs stick to your hair, clothes, skin, and house like cheese on a good grass-fed burger. So, when good ol’ soap and water isn't available because let's say you are at a restaurant and simply do not want to get up, because you've been handling money or touching the never-washed grocery store carts; then hand sanitizer is what you need. And what could be better than to make your own at home!

So, for this DIY all you'll be needing is three simple ingredients; aloe vera, alcohol and your favorite essential oils. To be honest essential oils, aren't necessary; these are only for a nice aroma. The necessary ingredient is at least 60% alcohol and aloe vera.

Why it works you ask? Hand sanitizers must contain at least 60% alcohol to be effective. That's why it is very important to use a rubbing alcohol that is 99% alcohol.
Isopropyl alcohol is what eradicates or kills germs. Sometimes when making your own hand sanitizer at home, the problem is to make sure you have the correct ratio of alcohol.
Adding an emollient such as aloe vera gel or glycerin will prevent the hand sanitizer from drying out your skin, and essential oils will give the mixture a pleasant smell.
If you've decided to use essential oils, we advice you to opt for tea tree essential oil -which is an antiviral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory oil. The essential oils and alcohol will do the cleaning, and the higher concentration of aloe vera gel gives this sanitizer the same gel consistency as commercial sanitizers. Sanitizer should be applied to all hand surfaces and rubbed for about 20 seconds, until it is dry.
